Brushing and Flossing Daily for a Healthy Smile – Tips from Your Burleson Dentist

A healthy smile starts at home! At Burleson Dental, we believe prevention is the best form of dental care. That’s why we encourage all our Burleson patients to make daily brushing and flossing a top priority in their oral hygiene routine.

These simple habits not only keep your breath fresh but also protect your teeth and gums from decay and disease—saving you time, money, and discomfort down the road.

Why Brushing Daily Matters

Brushing your teeth twice a day—once in the morning and once before bed—is essential for removing plaque, food particles, and bacteria that build up throughout the day.

Tips for effective brushing:

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste

  • Brush for 2 full minutes

  • Angle your brush at 45 degrees to the gum line

  • Don’t forget to brush your tongue to fight bad breath

Consistent brushing helps prevent cavities, gum disease, and staining, keeping your smile looking and feeling its best.

Don’t Skip the Floss!

While brushing cleans the surfaces of your teeth, it can’t reach between them. That’s where flossing comes in. Flossing daily removes plaque and debris from areas your toothbrush can’t access—reducing your risk of gum inflammation and tooth decay.

Flossing tips:

  • Use about 18 inches of floss, winding most around your fingers

  • Gently slide the floss between each tooth, forming a C-shape

  • Don’t snap or force the floss—be gentle on your gums

Not a fan of string floss? Water flossers and floss picks are great alternatives, especially for patients with braces or dental work.

The Benefits of Daily Oral Care

By brushing and flossing every day, you’re not just caring for your teeth—you’re investing in your overall health. Good oral hygiene has been linked to a lower risk of:
